Your private Egyptologist guide will meet you at your hotel or your selected pick-up point in Aswan to start your city tour. The first stop is the High Dam, the major 1960s engineering project designed to manage the Nile’s floods and supply hydroelectric power.
Afterward, head to the ancient granite quarries to view the Unfinished Obelisk, an enormous piece begun in the time of Queen Hatshepsut. Seeing it in place offers a clear look at the methods used by ancient Egyptians to cut and shape stone on a monumental scale.
Next, take a pleasant boat ride across the Nile to Philae Temple, among Aswan’s best-known monuments and the main cult center of the goddess Isis. The temple, saved from rising waters through a UNESCO-led effort, is admired for its Ptolemaic-era design and the rich mythology carved into its walls.
