Set out from Aswan on a private day trip to Abu Simbel, home to two of ancient Egypt’s most celebrated cliff-carved temples. With a professional English-speaking Egyptologist guide, travel by modern bus and explore the monumental legacy of King Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. Learn how the Great Temple honors Ramses II alongside Ptah, Re-Horakhty, and Amun-Re, while the smaller temple is devoted to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. Along the way, discover how UNESCO led an extraordinary rescue and relocation project to protect the site from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, and hear about the remarkable Sun Festival alignment on February 22 and October 22, when sunlight reaches the sanctuary statues. Your day begins with a meeting at your hotel in Aswan, where your expert Egyptologist guide will join you for the journey south. Travel in comfort by modern bus on one of the most rewarding excursions from Aswan, heading to the legendary temples of Abu Simbel.
On arrival, explore the world-famous monuments carved into the rock during the reign of Ramses II of the 19th dynasty. Admire the immense scale and fine details that made the temples a symbol of New Kingdom power and craftsmanship. Visit the Great Temple, dedicated to Ramses II as well as the gods Ptah, Re-Horakhty, and Amun-Re, and then continue to the smaller temple built in honor of Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.

As you walk through the site, your guide will explain the extraordinary UNESCO-led relocation that saved Abu Simbel from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. You will also learn about the famed Sun Festival phenomenon, which occurs twice each year on February 22 and October 22, when the sun aligns to illuminate the sanctuary statues—an astonishing demonstration of ancient planning and engineering.
After time to take photos and absorb the stories behind these iconic temples, you will travel back to Aswan, concluding your day with a deeper understanding of Egypt’s royal legacy.
